Record Breaking Golf Day
On Wednesday 12th June the Rotary Club of Cannock held its annual golf day at The Chase Golf Club. This even is the clubs biggest single fund raising event and all funds raised on the day go to support Rotary Charities and good causes.
This year the Rotary club had a tremendous support with 20 teams taking part in event from across the region. The Rotary Club also received very generous sponsorship from number local companies which made a significant contribution to ensuring the day was a success.
The day started with a barbecue lunch with local beers in the sunshine on the Golf club terrace. There was a virtual par three competition on the golf simulator, free practice facilities at the driving range before the shotgun start to the team Stableford competition at 1.00pm.
The day concluded with a splendid evening meal and prize presentations and raffle which rose over £1000 for charity. The Rotary President Cliff Shore thanked all involved with the organising the event and assured the guests that ALL money raised would be used to support those in need.
This year’s winning team was Cuttlestones Auctioneers from Penkridge on 102 points and the runner up on the same score but losing on count back was Uniseal Ltd from Burntwood and in third place was Kier Living.
Ben Gamble won the nearest the pin prize on the ninth hole donated by Brindley Honda Cannock.
There was also a special prize for the team who had played the most golf shots and this year’s winners was the team from Anglesey real estate ltd who won a golf lesson from the golf professional at The Chase golf club
This Golf day which is now an established event in the Rotary calendar and this year thanks to the generosity to the teams who took part and the events many sponsors , raised record breaking £5600 ,This year The Cannock Friends of St Giles Hospice and The Stafford & Cannock League Friends are among the charities that will benefit.
The Rotary Club of Cannock is already starting to plan next year’s event which will be held in June 2019 at The Chase Golf Club. If you wish to take part in next year’s event more information will be available on the Rotary Club of Cannock web site

With the current spate of hot weather, thinking about running 10k is probably not your cup of tea right now. But in November we will be holding our annual 10k event the weather will be perfect for running so get this date in your diary. Sunday 18th November starting at Marquis Drive and running along the roads of Cannock Chase. Race starts at 1100am entries on the day or prior to save a few quid. See you at the start line.
