Cannock Rotary Club Members enjoyed an evening of Magic to celebrate all the clubs Past Presidents. Close up table Magic was performed by Adam Paul Cooper of APC Magic.
Dog handler, Bob and his dog Jake came to the club yesterday evening. This was a perfect event for all. Jake, the Working Cocker Spaniel and Metropolitan Police Dog helped to keep people free from further harm after the 7/7 London bombings. He risked his life to search the bus wreckage at Tavistock Square and the mile-long route from Russell Square to the bomb-damaged train at Kings Cross, ensuring that the area was safe for paramedics and explosives officers. All the guests enjoyed meeting Jake after the talk.
A huge thank you to everybody who entered the 2011 Cannock Rotary 10km, with on the day entries taking us up to a final entry total of 262, an increase of 19% over 2010.
The 10k run over the Chase in November raised a total of £2504.72 after costs. This donation will benefit Funds and Charity’s.

Congratulations to the 2011 Cannock Rotary 10km Champion MARK ROGERS of Wigan Phoenix AC who completed the hilly course in 36.46. Our Ladies Champion for 2011 is JILL McGEE of B.R.A.T who came home in 43.23.
An entertaining and informative talk was given on 12th January by Sarah from Staffordshire County Council Trading Standards. Sarah’s team are responsible for enforcing a wide range of legislation relating to the supply and distribution of goods and services. Sarah showed club members a huge amount of confiscated counterfeited household, drink and grocery items. Club member’s received valuable advice from this popular event.
The Cannock Rotary Club made it once again to the Finals “Cannock v Shrewsbury Darwin Rotary Club”. The match is postponed until the summer now. In the meantime the club moves into the Winter Sports season, if anyone is interested in making up the club numbers for Snooker, 10 pin bowling or Table tennis, then get in touch with Alan T.
This is the time to get training for Cannock Chase’s big run event. This years run will be starting from The Visitor Centre, Marquis Drive, WS12 4PW over scenic Cannock Chase. The date is now set as 11 am, Sunday November 20th. Entry will be £10. Details of how to enter available from this link. The time to beat from 2010 is 33 minutes, 44 seconds. The Rotary Club of Cannock will host a barbecue on the morning of the event offering food, snacks and drinks to competitors and their families. Car parking is available free of charge, and there are toilets available some 600 metres away at the Cannock Chase Visitor Centre. Public Liability Insurance is provided under the Rotary Club’s policy, and there will be paramedics in attendance on the day.

The Stroke Association are hosting a fantastic Fire Walk event on Friday 4th November 2011 @ Hednesford Town FC, Keys Park Stadium, Hednesford. Challenge yourself and your colleagues to walk over hot coals with the temperature reaching a heat up of to 1300 degrees Fahrenheit, whilst raising funds to support people affected by stroke. Your support will help the Stroke Association to work towards a vision of a world with fewer strokes and where those affected by stroke get the help and support they need. Hot foot it to Hednesford Town and get involved in the event and help us raise vital funds. You can enter as an individual or as part of a team. Action Kenya is a small charity run to help poor people in coastal Kenya. One of the projects is to improve the conditions at Gede School for Physically Disabled and Deaf Children and to find sponsors for the children. The rain of July was forgotten when the fantastic West Hill Primary School Steel Band played at the Presidents Garden Party!!!
On 29th June Mel Morgan, the new President for the year 2011/12 was inducted at the meeting of the Rotary Club of Cannock.
Mel is a local man and has been a member and keen supporter of the Club for many years.
He thanked out going President Peter Barke for all his hard work in the past year.
Mel set out his plan for the forth coming year, it a busy schedule of fun and fellowship that includes raising much needed funds for charities both locally and abroad.
He also stated that the Club will continue to respond with emergency aid to international emergencies as they arise, Rotary Clubs are always amongst the first to send aid in these situations and Cannock Rotary Club is proud to be part of this rapid response. The Rotary Club of Cannock sent aid to Haiti, Pakistan, Japan and New Zealand during recent disasters.
The Rotary Club of Cannock continues to grow and Mel reinforced his desire to attract new members from the Cannock area to the Club especially as the next 12 months will include so many enjoyable social events.
On Thursday 16th June 2011 the Rotary Club of Cannock are holding a charity video horse race night to raise vital funds for Rotary charities.

The venue is in Cannock.
Time 7.00pm arrival with the first of our 8 featured races starting at 7.30pm.
The evening will consist of video horse racing consisting of 8 races in total throughout the evening with a lightsupper provided. All for the cost of £6 per person.
The theme for the night is Royal Ascot Ladies day with a prize to the lady with the best home made “Ascot Hat”.
For the more daring of you why not become a horse owner for £5.00 with the horse being named by you and featured in the evening race card, and if your horse wins you will win a prize equivalent to £20
