The Cannock Rotary Club made it once again to the Finals “Cannock v Shrewsbury Darwin Rotary Club”. The match is postponed until the summer now. In the meantime the club moves into the Winter Sports season, if anyone is interested in making up the club numbers for Snooker, 10 pin bowling or Table tennis, then get in touch with Alan T.
This is the time to get training for Cannock Chase’s big run event. This years run will be starting from The Visitor Centre, Marquis Drive, WS12 4PW over scenic Cannock Chase. The date is now set as 11 am, Sunday November 20th. Entry will be £10. Details of how to enter available from this link. The time to beat from 2010 is 33 minutes, 44 seconds. The Rotary Club of Cannock will host a barbecue on the morning of the event offering food, snacks and drinks to competitors and their families. Car parking is available free of charge, and there are toilets available some 600 metres away at the Cannock Chase Visitor Centre. Public Liability Insurance is provided under the Rotary Club’s policy, and there will be paramedics in attendance on the day.

Join in for a fun-filled fundraiser evening, including a lesson from a professional salsa instructor followed by lots of salsa dancing!
Even if you can’t (or won’t) dance, it would be great for you to come and show your support.
There will also be a raffle with a range of prizes donated by local businesses.
All proceeds will be split between The Stroke Association and Therapies Unite. Therapies Unite work towards supporting children and adults with physical impairments and disablilities living in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

A wonderful presentation was given of the recent work by Laura Brown from Therapies Unite. Laura is a local qualified physiotherapist who took part in a three month self funded placement as part of a volunteer physiotherapy unit in Mexico. Laura treated disabled children and adults with musculoskeletal and neurological problems to improve their mobility and provide them with access to healthcare that they would otherwise not be able to afford.
Laura returned to the UK and was inspired to set up Therapies Unite, with a goal to set up a permanent volunteer project that places skilled and qualified professionals in communities that will benefit most from their expertise.
Laura plans to return to Mexico in December for many months, any professional or sponsorship help would be welcome. Cannock Rotarians donated £100 funding towards Therapies Unite’s 2012 projects.
